Wilfried Agricola de Cologne – Orfeo Negro, 2006, 4:20
Filmed on the performance festival Interferencias in Junin-Buenos Aires/Argentina and Retiro railway station Buenos Aires in 2005, the video takes a performance by the Argentine artist Vera Baxter as the basis for a contemporary interpretation of the “classical” ORFEO NEGRO”, which is converting the film document not only to a metaphor for the artistic process of an action, but also to a new artwork.

From Istanbul, Genco Gulan started in 2002 – The Istanbul Museum – a virtual museum. Wilfried participated in the “Netart Open @ Instanbul Museum 2002- and in 2003 in Web Biennial – another online context by Genco Gulan, in We Biennial 2007. Web Biennial is said to be the 1st Biennial online, but retrospectively seen, in 2020 is was rather a short term initiative, like many other platforms for netart – simply because after 2004 there was a more less quick decline of netart.

138 Seconds of peace, 2003, 138 seconds
What is peace?
An illusion or just a pipe-dream?
Is it only the state of non-war, the state of non-conflict?
Is the state of peace not against the animal nature of the human being?
Doesn’t represent peace (like harmony) an essential human desire on one hand,
but the most instabile one, and having it, who can stand it?
Aren’t peace and war not degraded to mere consuming good of humans who have lost any sense for humanity?
The human evolution is a history of war, not the history of peace. Isn’t it??
138 seconds of peace? – a net based art work by Agricola de Cologne, points to these and other questions not only in times of war.
The work was launched on 19 March 2003, begin of Iraq war.

Voice, music, sound, words performed by Agricola de Cologne.
The movie is developed in Flash, produced, edited and directed by Agricola de Cologne.

On 14 May 2005, Wilfried released the online presentation of videoart from Turkey – curated by Sinasi Günes, who, as a video artist himself, participated in many projects Wilfried was realizing between 2000-2010.

—> Obsession – Audiovisual Art Festival – was another initiative by Sinasi Gunes. In the 2005 edition, Wilfried is participating with his latest video- filmed in Palestine – “Message from Behind a Wall”. Wilfried really regrets that he did not take the chance to visit Turkey in times when it was politically more liberal – 2000-2010.

Message from Behind A Wall

video

Message from Behind a Wall, 2005, 10:00
The segregation wall in Palestine is a fact. In November 2004, an artistic action against the wall ended, taking place at six different places in Palestine where walls were under construction, initiated by Palestine artists by inviting artists from different countries to paint an artistic message on the concrete.
When Agricola de Cologne was in Bethlehem in February 2005, he visited several places where the Israeli were erecting the wall. The part of the wall he was filming, is situated in opposite of the AIDA refugee camp (UN), and was at that time a temporary playground for children. And these children made their own contribution to the huge wall paintings.
“Message from behind a Wall”is transporting different messages, but the main message represents the action of children’s innocence.
The moving picture is a unique document of the day of 17 February 2005. Meanwhile, the construction of the wall in Bethlehem is since long time completed, and the area around the wall does not motivate children to use it further as a playground.

In 2007, Julie Upmeyer started in Istanbul art related activities – Enter Caravansarai Festival by installing in sequence the art space Caravansarai. At the beginning in 2007, Julie was exploring her possibilities in Istanbul first, but Wilfried found in this context the interest in presenting a selection from CologneOFF I and II as a screening program.

Wilfried Agricola de Cologne – House of Tomorrow, 2005, 3:10
The house of tomorrow is the house of one’s identity, it does not need to be a concrete house or building, but represents a secure and protected place where people can stand for what they are and represent, a human being. And this human may have many identities in different fields, the sexual identity represents only one among many others.

Wilfried Agriciola de Cologne – Truth- Paradise Found, 2004: 3:00
The video tells the story of the human desire to be as close to truth as possible. But who ever will succeed while living a life dominated by the fast running time and endless searching?
If there is any paradise, then monks or people really resting within themselves find a paradise close to truth close to GOD. But it is only truth people are believing in. Is there absolute truth?
The video consists of three sections, a spiritual and a physical section and the acting level, the artist who is filming the scene, an intruder who become witness of a ritual of truth.
This basic video was filmed in 2003 at the Rila Monastery, the spiritual centre of Bulgaria.

In 2005, Wilfried was following a call for videos by the METU University in Ankara which was planning to organise a festival that year, but when it was so far, he never heard anything any more – even the website had been taken from the net, so Wilfried was thinking, typical for many festivals which got financial problems and gave up – until nearly one year later, the festival contacted Wilfried again announcing the festival date in March 2006. While he was thinking this might be again an occasion to visit Turkey, he recognized the email arrived two days before the festival startes – so it was on too short notice and too late.
