Mudas -Museum of Contemporary Art
PEAM – Pescara Electronic Artists Meeting
Yesterday still in Finland, Wilfried is today on the beautiful island of Madeira, where – surprise, surprise – a festival is taking place at MUDAS – the Museum of Contemporary Art
named, Mudas Fest Madeira. Like in so many other cases, Wilfried is not able to attend the event personally, because the annual schedule of events is to close. The festival has a particular theme – without spoken text – so the videos – like most art videos do, in fact, do neither use dialogues nor texts of any kind (like subtitles), so that the videos a living from the moving images and music/sound, actually a very good way to present moving images at an art museum, because the works are much closer to art than to classical film or video.
Afterwards, Wilfried will be really surprised that the festival will be discontinued and the event Wilfried is participating in, was the last of that kind at the museum, but Madeira is also not the typical place for a video festival.
Today, Wilfried is jumping in 2003 and 2004 to Pescara, an Italian city situated at the Adria close to the Abruzzo – a place where for several years PEAM – Pescara Electronic Artists Meeting is taking place . While in 2003 Wilfried is not attending in 2004 he is attending, being surprised at first that Pescara is hosting an airport Ryan Air is flying to, and once landed, on the way to the city centre he is missing the beauty of other Italien places, but then he is remembering, Pescara was a battle field in World War II and was nearly totally destroyed. So, in a certain way Wilfried does not feel comfortable on his way to the festival location.
Because the visibly experienceable is not related to any historial structure, the city fits actually best for hosting a festival of electronic art, but when Wilfried is entering the location, he recognises that the Ecoteka (Enoteka) is representing really a “wine shop”, something which he could not imagine as a place for a festival. So, all guests need to get accustomed first with this unconventional festival location, but in the end it doesn’t seem to be a bad place at all, because the “wine shop” is sponsoring the festival with wine.
Wilfried doesn’t know before he is entering the hotel, where he is supposed to sleep at night, that he has to share a small bedroom with three other foreign festival participants, but that’s something Wilfried is principally not doing – sharing a hotelroom with so many people, that’s some young people may do, so he has to fight for a while before he gets a single room, where he really can rest. Here in Pescara, Wilfried is meeting in 2003 virtally and in 2004 physically many of the technology based artists he is collaborating with since 2000.
