Düsseldorf

After living so many years in Cologne, just 35 km distance to Düsseldorf, Wilfried has his first artistic “performance” in Düsseldorf at Onomato Künstler Verein, thats a kind of artists association providing residencies and project funding, but also events like screenings or artists presentations. He is presenting some program aspects of the 10th and final edition of CologneOFF – Cologne International Videoart Festival, which was launched some days ago.
Autum is generally full of events as the start of the new season of cultural activities, he is making today in 2008 and 2009 big jumps to Australia, where in Melbourne @ Digital Fringe Festival his videos “Silent Cry” and “En[code]ed” are screened, and then in 2008 also back to Thessaloniki, Where AZA Digital Cinema is presenting also his video “En [code] ed” and his curated video compilation, entitled “Women Directors Cut 13:13:13” featuring 13 videos by 13 female video directors from 13 countries.

Digital Fringe Melbourne 2008 - 2009
video
Digital Fringe Melbourne (Aus) – 23 Sept- 11 Oct 2009
Wilfried Agricola de Cologne – Silent Cry, 2008, §:40

Short synopsis
Silent Cry is the visualization of an internal cry happening all the time, when society does not allow to show deep emotional affection. The silent cry is always present caused by never ending traumatizations during decades hidden behind the facade people wants to see. And even if the cry would be be seen or heard, people would refuse to face it. The work release is giving sound a particular relevance.

video
Digital Fringe Melbourne/AU – 24 Sept- 12 October 2008
En[code]ed, 2008, 5:00
Digital video inspired by a visit of Thessaloniki.
The work describes the principle of “code” or “coding” in form of an allegory, a metaphoric story as a ritual of meeting, dominating and resigning. The code is identified as a state of the static, dogmatic and conservative, which asks for obedience, but gives no chance to escape.

Project overview
Digital Fringe (DF) was conceived as a partner festival to the well-established Melbourne Fringe Festival. The objective of the festival was to showcase the works of local and overseas artists and
to place visual digital art in a range of non-traditional public contexts. It is an open access festival that has quickly established itself as the digital arts arm of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
2008 was the third year for DF. DF08 increased its’ exposure, refined its’ systems, further consolidated the link with Melbourne Fringe Festival and continued to expand its’ associations with
new media artists and public screens across Victoria. DF is about putting emerging screen content in new places and building a network of existing screens in public to showcase this material. While
there are numerous online repositories of video and new media art on the web, no-one else is taking this content out into public screens and spaces.
Digital Fringe has 2 distinct aspects:
1. The General Stream – the collating of digital artworks through the Digital Fringe website, and their screening via the web and numerous public screens 2. The Performative components – MPU, events, workshops and gigs. In keeping with the Fringe Festival charter, Digital Fringe is accessible to emerging and established artists, particularly those working in new media. We provide access to a huge network of public screens for emerging artists to exhibit their work.
Uploaded content will be moderated by the Digital Fringe team, it plays online and a curated selection will play on hundreds of screens around the world, from home computers to public screens, from grand urban screens to retail television displays, hospitality venues, galleries and other nooks and crannys around the city and across the globe. This extensive network of screens is seen by hundreds of thousands of viewers.
Artists retain copyright to their works and have access to the creative commons suite of licences.
